Michael Page has launched its annual study on executive search trends in large companies for the year 2022. Through this analysis, it aims to profile how the labour market in different sectors will behave next year, as well as to analyse what has changed compared to previous years.

We have selected some of the main areas present in the study with an impact on the supply chain. After all, what better way to start the new year than with a good analysis of trends and some proactivity to avoid being taken by surprise?

Engineering & Manufacturing

At the level of the industrial sector, the study points out that companies have well demonstrated their importance and a faster pace than usual. The most sought after profiles were related to the logistics and supply chain areas, namely Process Engineers, Continuous Improvement Engineers, Production Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians, Project Managers, and Product Engineers.

The growing need for professionals in these areas is quite clear, with demand exceeding supply in the market. Despite this, at the level of salaries, management positions have not changed, but in technical engineering areas great improvements are visible. "Remuneration or other monetary benefits are not the only way to influence the decision of candidates, who are increasingly seeking flexibility and/or a balance between professional and personal life," says the company.

Michael Page also highlights that "it is important that companies differentiate themselves in this sector through a strong corporate culture, with well-defined career plans and the possibility of internal mobility".

Information Technology

In recent years the area of information technology has had a special prominence, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and largely due to the digital transformation that followed. For this very reason, it is understandable and expected that this has shown growth, with a greater demand for strategic and specialized professionals, especially in the areas of Cyber Security, IoT, Cloud, CRM, ERP, Machine Learning, and Big Data.

The demands for these positions have also increased, in combination with hard and soft skills, and in terms of competencies, leadership, communication, and problem-solving orientation stand out.

This area has a higher salary trend, and this is an important factor in talent hunting. However, other decision factors for candidates to accept new challenges also stand out, particularly: the nature of the project, the technological environment and the responsibilities of the position itself.

Logistics

The demand for professionals in this area is strong and with a trend towards salary progression. As seen previously in regards to the industrial sector, this area has a demand greater than supply, and the company points out that this is "in part due to the impact of the pandemic on the sector, forcing companies to review all processes".

The most sought after profiles are middle management, especially Customer Service, Logistics Supervisor, Operations Manager or Senior Buyer. In terms of Top Management positions, there was also a growth in demand for the positions of Operations Director, Logistics Director, Supply Chain Director and Purchasing Director.

In terms of attracting talent, this area requires differentiation on the part of companies, and a plan that involves the possibility of career progression and a diversified fringe benefits package, such as a gym, health insurance, pension fund, among others, besides considering other issues such as health or flexibility.
