Nova SBE has joined El Corte Inglés to create a digital academy, with the aim of promoting the transformation of online platforms through training. The main goal is to contribute to innovation in the sector and to the skills of the company's employees.

Participants will learn about new business models, how to make data-driven and customer-centric decisions and explore topics such as marketing and sales, logistics and supply in the digital age.

Clara Rodrigues, Head of Training & Development El Corte Inglés Portugal, explained to us why the partnership with Nova SBE Executive Education is so important in this transformation process:

Why did you decide to invest in this training, given the current context?

Pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation process and we consider investment in training to be fundamental in driving this change. There is evidence that companies that invest in technology and neglect the human side of these transformation processes do not achieve the desired results. We know that the adoption of a new culture and mindset of collaboration must be supported by several initiatives by different areas of the organisation that, as a whole, reinforce each other. The role of training is unquestionable and works as the "glue" of all of them.

Why did you choose Nova SBE's training offer?

There were several reasons, starting with the quality of its teaching and teachers. On the other hand, we recently collaborated in a Digital Maturity study developed by NOVA SBE, BCG and Google, and we realized that the mutual knowledge developed in that process, contributed to the fact that NOVA SBE proposals fit very well to our reality. Finally, we value the differentiating learning experience that the Nova Digital Experience Lab and Co Inovation Lab will provide to our people.

How does training contribute to meeting the challenges of this digital transformation process?

Digital transformation is a complex change process with an impact on several variables: strategy, technology, processes, working models... In any of them, people can be the success or failure factor. Along with a Top/Down mobilization, training allows the development of knowledge and skills, encouraging the restlessness of wanting to know/do more and differently. This internal culture is necessary and critical. Training is essential here.

What are the new training practices and the differences in the pre- and post-covid training plan?

Covid brought multiple challenges for everyone. A retail company like ours was no exception. We witnessed changes in consumption, various constraints by confinements, increased teleworking... The company's strategic options have changed and our training practices and priorities have also had to be readjusted. Distance learning has taken on a predominant role. We readjusted priorities and gave greater emphasis to all training plans related to Digital Transformation, Security, Management and New Technologies. Without ever neglecting commercial training because the quality of service continues to be a differentiating pillar in our customers' experience.

Why is it important for El Corte Inglés to invest in training?

It makes sense not only to maintain this investment but also to focus it on strategic aspects. El Corte Inglés is recognised for the quality of its products, customer service and services. But this focus extends to many other areas and is a value that extends to everything we do. That is why we place great importance on training, mobilising thousands of participants every year.
